Privacy Policy
This policy says what Campus Connections collects, who can see it, who processes it for us, and how long we keep it. Campus Connections matches college students who are flying out of the same airport so they can share a ride there.
1. What we collect
- Account: your name, school email address, school, campus area, gender, graduation year, and a profile photo if you add one.
- Trips: airport, flight number, flight date and time, terminal, bag counts, gender preference, how early you want to reach the airport, and any earliest or latest time you can leave campus, with the reason you give (for example a class or a shift).
- Rides: who you were matched with, chat messages, the pickup spot, who books the car, the fare, who marked themselves paid, and the Venmo or Cash App username you choose to share.
- Ratings and reports: thumbs up or down, an optional note, and any report you file about another rider.
- Device and technical data: a push notification token if you turn notifications on, IP address and browser details used for security and rate limiting, and error reports when something breaks.
2. How we use it
- To match you with riders at your school on compatible flights, and to open a chat between you.
- To send you email and push notifications about your trips, matches, fares and reminders.
- To keep people you have reported, or left a ride with, from being matched with you again.
- To prevent abuse, investigate reports, and keep the service running.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
3. What other riders see
- Before a match: nothing about you, except that the manual ride board (when it is open) shows your name, photo, campus area, flight and bag counts to riders at your school on a nearby flight.
- After a match: your name, photo, school, campus area, flight, terminal, any leave-campus time and reason you gave, the Venmo or Cash App username you share as the booker, and your chat messages.
- Any signed-in rider can see how many rides you have completed and how many thumbs up you have received. Thumbs down, notes and reports are never shown to other riders.
- If you share a ride link, anyone at your school who opens it sees your first name and flight.
4. Who processes it for us
- Google Firebase: sign-in, database, file storage, push notifications and server functions.
- Vercel: hosting for the website.
- Resend: sending email.
- AeroDataBox: when you look up a flight, we send the flight number and date. Nothing about you is sent.
We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
5. How long we keep it
- A trip that never matched is deleted a few hours after its flight.
- A ride chat closes to new messages 72 hours after the last flight in the ride.
- Everything else is kept while your account exists.
6. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from your profile page at any time. That deletes your account, profile, photo, trips, reports and the ratings you gave, and removes the note from any rating about you. A chat you shared with someone who still has an account stays readable to them for 30 days after it closes, with your name removed. The counts on another rider's ride card do not change.
7. Age
Campus Connections is for college students who are 18 or older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
8. Security
Access to your data is limited by security rules, and only you, the riders you are matched with, and our administrators can read your ride details. No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your information. Most of it is on your profile and trip pages. For anything else, email us.
10. Changes
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will email you before it takes effect.
